Welcome to Money Moves.
Welcome to Money Moves. I’m Abed Kandiwapa Tangi. Today: how AI and mobile money are changing accounting and economics in Namibia.
For years, accounting meant manual ledgers and cash payments. Small businesses struggled to get loans without records. Cash made it hard for economists to measure the economy.
Emerging tech is changing that.
First, cloud accounting. Apps like Xero let you snap a receipt and AI sorts it instantly. That means fewer errors and real-time books. Accountants now focus on advising, not data entry.
Second, mobile money. PayToday and EasyWallet are used by over 1.2 million Namibians. This boosts financial inclusion and gives economists real data to measure GDP.
Third, AI audits. Instead of checking 5% of transactions, AI checks 100% and flags fraud instantly. That makes businesses safer.
For students, your job won’t be typing numbers. It will be interpreting AI and protecting data. The risks are cybersecurity and the digital divide.
Emerging tech isn’t replacing accountants or economists. It’s giving us better tools.
