Fees Must Fall has dominated the national conversation in South Africa over the past year, since we saw the explosion of this student movement in October 2015. As we know, protests have erupted across the country over the past few weeks, with students demanding free, decolonised education at universities. As experts debate the possibility of free education for South Africa, students are turning to government and university management for answers.
Today, we hope to get an outsider’s perspective. Joining us now is Sara Goldrick-Rab, a professor of Higher Education Policy & Sociology at Temple University, and Founder of the Wisconsin HOPE Lab, the US’s only translational research laboratory seeking ways to make college more affordable.
