Four injured in attempted cash-in-transit heist near Brits in NW

--:--
A security officer is in a critical condition after he, two colleagues and a member of the public were shot during a failed cash-in-transit heist on the N4 near the Brits off-ramp early this morning.

North West police spokesperson, Mpeilatla Talane, says three Fidelity guards travelling in two vans and the member of the public were injured in the crossfire with an unknown number of suspects. He says multiple shots were fired in the shootout between the guards and suspects, and that no cash was taken by the would-be robbers.

Talane says the names of the injured cannot be disclosed yet.

All the injured were transported to various hospitals, including the Brits Mediclinic.

Talane says police are investigating a case of attempted murder and attempted robbery.
