Announcement about NC Health intervention expected today

--:--
Northern Cape Premier Sylvia Lucas is expected to make an announcement later today about a high level intervention at the provincial Health Department.

The department, along with the other provincial government departments, started the financial year with accruals amounting to R1 billion.

DA MPL, Isak Fritz says the health department's financial woes, coupled with the wrong appointments at hospitals and a shortage of staff, are having a negative impact on the delivery of health services.

He says the Kimberley Hospital, central to the province's health services, is experiencing serious problems.

Health MEC Lebogang Motlhaping announced last week during his budget speech that the Galeshewe Community Health Centre, in Kimberley, will soon be open 24 hours a day in an effort to lessen the workload at Kimberley Hospital.

Fritz says he however hopes that Lucas announces drastic steps today.
