The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) will remain a focus of the South African government as the state’s response to unemployment despite tough economic times.
The EPWP is implemented in four government sectors. Members of the inter-ministerial committee overseeing the programme, which include several ministers and deputy-ministers under leadership of Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, visited the Northern Cape to get grass roots level feedback on selected projects.
The deputy director-general of the program in the National Department of Public Works, Stan Henderson, says government entities look for labour intensive technologies to implement their EPWP strategies.
