The lawyer for Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has told the Pretoria Magistrate's Court that they intend applying for the dismissal of all charges against her which they deem " frivolous." Advocate Dali Mpofu represented Mkhwebane during her court appearance this morning on three charges of perjury in relation to a damning Constitutional Court ruling against her which found she may have been biased in her investigation into the Absa-Bankorp matter. Head of Accountability Now, Paul Hoffman laid criminal charges against Mkhwebane in 2019 after the ConCourt judgment. The state and defence reached mutual agreement on the postponement. The matter was postponed to the 25th of March. Mpofu says if their application is denied they will then approach the High Court.........

< I would also like to place on record just to put our intentions as to what will happen during that period in perspective. The intention is to make representations for the withdrawal of the charges which we regard as frivolous and contrived. We will therefore report back to the court on the 25th of March as to the progress in that regard but our predeliction is that if the request is not granreted then our instructions might well include making an application in the high court. >
