The International Racing Club is reviewing its involvement in the South African horse racing industry after a horse was killed and others were seriously injured during the protest by horse groomers at the Fairview Racing Yard, on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth. Groomers and some members of the community from the nearby informal settlement stormed the yard this morning and let the horses out of their stables. Some horses were attacked with sharp objects. The disgruntled workers say they were acting in solidarity with a colleague who was dismissed in February.
