Judgment has been reserved in the High Court in Cape Town in an application by British American Tobacco to challenge government's ban on the sale of cigarettes. BATSA has argued that the ban is not based on scientific evidence and that it's unconstitutional. Government lawyers told the court that ban is needed to prevent smokers who contract COVID-19 from developing severe symptoms. The matter was heard by a full bench of judges. Its unclear at this stage when judgment will be handed down.
