#PODCAST: Residents of Welbedacht in Chatsworth left without electricity since the 6th of July

By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Residents of Welbedacht at Chatsworth, south of Durban are finding this winter very difficult - having been left without electricity since the 6th of this month. An anonymous resident says prior to this, they only had electricity for 14 days in June, while still footing their monthly bill well over R2,000. She says her family had to purchase a generator to keep their fridge and freezer on, but still had to throw away a lot of food that had gone bad. Ward 77 councillor Anoop Rampersad says numerous attempts have been laid with the eThekwini Municipality, without any results. He says the prolonged power outage is because of an abundance of illegal electricity connections. Councillor Rampersad says these connections have led to transformers exploding on a regular basis...
