Protection of Personal Information Act - South Africa

Following a long seven years since the enactment of Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that POPIA will finally come into force on first of July 2020, with the exception of some provisions coming into force on 30 June 2021. The Act concerns the processing of personal information by companies and other agents, and introduces a number of new laws that clamp down on user and employee data processing.
