Economic Impact of Covid-19

The Dow Jones Index in New York last week opened seven per cent lower, prompting an automatic temporary suspension of trading. European markets, have also fallen in response to the plunge in New York. This follows the US President Donald Trump's cancellation of travel from 26 European countries to America for the next 30 days, beginning last week Friday at midnight in light of the corona virus. South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced a raft of measures to try and contain the spread of the coronavirus in South Africa, including a national state of disaster. He says this will help in combatting the spread of the virus. This follows a cabinet meeting to discuss measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus in South Africa. Ramaphosa says 61 cases of the virus have now been confirmed in South Africa.
