South Sudan Unity Government

South Sudan President Salva Kiir last week appointed his long rival Riek Machar as his first vice-President. The government of Unity comes after a brutal civil war that has seen more than 400,000 deaths and has displaced 3.5 million in South Sudan since 2013. Meanwhile the transitional government in South Sudan could be unduly delayed following disagreements over ministry and portfolio balance between President Salva Kiir and first Vice President Riek Machar.
