African governments urged to develop small cities for young people

More children and youth will be living in urban areas and cities, than in rural areas in Sub-Saharan Africa, by 2050. However, the biggest proportion of urban population will reside in secondary towns of 300,000 people or less. At the recently held 10th World Urban Forum in Abu Dhabi, the UN's child agency (UNICEF) and the agency for human settlements (UN-Habitat) urged governments to focus more on developing secondary towns.
