ILO calls for unity to end modern-day slavery

International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is celebrated every year on the 2nd of December. The day is an occasion to reflect on the ills of modern-day slavery which prevails in the form of child labour, forced marriage, and human trafficking among others. The International Labour Organisation, ILO estimates that over forty million people around the world were victims of modern slavery in 2016.
