By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - An eco-friendly alternative is on the cards for South Africans who do not wish to be buried or cremated. The process of "Aquamation" uses heat, pressure and water, with a high alkaline level - to produce a benign sterile liquid. This is disposed of through the municipal waste-water system. The remaining minerals are then processed into a fine powder and are returned to the family in the form of ashes. Aquamation is currently only available in the Western Cape to members of the AVBOB funeral insurance.
