Gender Equality

The United Nations says gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Currently, 1 in 5 women and girls between the ages of 15-49 have reported experiencing physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner within a 12-month period and 49 countries currently have no laws protecting women from domestic violence. In South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa himself admitted that women and children are under siege saying there is a need to recognise the reality that we are confronting a crisis of violence and intolerance. I’m joined in studio by Commissioner Mbuyiselo Botha from the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) a man that has fought for women and men’s rights for many years, as well advocated for boy children to be mentored from an early age.
