African Dialogue

African countries have high rates of suicide rates and depression, however it is difficult for researchers to pinpoint the exact reasons why. The World Health Organisation has reported that the country with the highest rates of suicide is Kenya, with countries such as Nigeria and Ivory Coast surpassing the figures of European countries, China and the US. South Africa is reported comes sixth in the highest number of suicides, with 800 000 people take their own lives every year.
