Workers on Wednesday: Service Delivery Protests, Violence and Xenophobia

Since the widespread outbreak of xenophobic violence in many townships during 2008, it seems to have become a feature of service delivery protests in working class communities. What starts out as a protest against poor service delivery in terms housing issues or crime and inadequate policing often escalates into violence and looting that targets spaza shops owned by African or Asian migrants.
