Organizers of Future Champions international tournament happy local team won
Organizers of the Future Champions International Under-17 tournament are happy that Orlando Pirates became the first local team to win the tournament for the first time in ten years. Pirates beat Russian team FC Spartak 8-7 on penalties, after the two teams were levelled 1-1 after regulation time at Nike Centre, in Pimville, Soweto at the weekend. Teams from abroad have always won the previous editions of the competition. Tournament Director Phil Mogodi says it is good for local football. La Liga from Spain has been partnering with the tournament for the last few years. Every year three local players go to Spain and train with the junior teams in that country. Antonio Barradas from La Liga in Africa is happy Pirates won.
