Our Paralympic team is ageing - Moekie Grobelaar

South African Sports Association for Physically Disabled (SASAPD) President Moekie Grobelaar says the Paralympic team that brought many medals in the previous games is ageing. SA won a total of 17 medals (seven gold, six silver and four bronze) at the 2016 Rio Paralympics in Brazil. Most of the star athletes have either retired or at the twilight of their careers. SASAPD will take para-swimmers and para-athletes to compete at the World Games later this year. The Para Athletics will be hosted in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 7th to 15th, while the venue for the Para Swimming event is still to be announced. Grobelaar says the standard of qualifying is becoming higher. SASAPD will select a final team to the Paralympics after next year’s national championships. Grobelaar says the mother body South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) as a funder will determine the size of the final team.
