Mark fish lauds growth in African football but laments decision to expand FIFA World Cup
Bafana Bafana legend Mark Fish is excited with the growth in African football. Many small teams such as Tanzania, Namibia, Burundi and Madagascar have recently qualified for the 2019 Africa cup of nations in Egypt in June/July. CAF has expanded the tournament from 16 to 24 teams for this year’s edition. Bafana Bafana have also qualified after beating Libya 2-1 on Sunday (24 march 2019) to finish second in the group behind Nigeria. FIFA is planning to increase the number of teams for the 2022 world cup in Qatar. The plan is to increase teams from 32 to 48 teams. A decision is expected to be made official in June but Fish says it will dilute quality.
