Groundwater management can lessen devastation from floods in Southern Africa

While parts of Southern Africa have been hit hard by water scarcity in recent years, flooding from Cyclone Idai has left devastation in its wake – causing at least 66 deaths in Mozambique and 56 more in Malawi as a result of flooding and weather-related emergencies. Experts now suggest that devastation from floods in Southern Africa can be lessened if surface water and groundwater are managed better.
