Sundowns looking to reach quarterfinals against Lobi Stars - Pitso Mosimane
Mamelodi Sundowns Coach Pitso Mosimane says they will be looking to reach the quarterfinals of the CAF champions league, when they meet Nigerian team Lobi Stars in a group A match at Lucas Moripe stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday evening (kick-off 9pm). The Brazilians just need a victory to ensure qualification in the last eight of the prestigious tournament. They are currently on top of the log with seven points from four matches. The Brazilians did well to get a draw away to Asec Mimosa in Ivory Coast in the last group match. Moroccan team Wydad Athletic Club also played to a draw against Lobi Stars, to ensure that Downs remained on top. Mosimane says it was an important result for them. The 2016 champions are bidding to win the domestic league, as well as the champions league. They are second in the PSL level with Orlando Pirates on points, but with inferior goal difference. Mosimane says champs league is very important for them. Mosimane says the good run in the champs league has made his team to be respected across the continent. In 2016 they won the tournament and went on to compete at the FIFA club world cup in Japan. The Brazilians have not had a proper off-season having been competing in the champs league in the last five years. This season the champs league has been squeezed into six months to usher a new era, where the calendar will now run from August to May. Previously it was running from February to December. Mosimane says it has been a hectic five years for his team.
