Desiree Ellis not panicking over the poor showing in the Cyprus Cup

South Africa’s women senior national football team Coach Desiree Ellis is not panicking over the poor showing by her team in the Cyprus cup. Banyana lost three matches and only drew once in the annual tournament that features teams from across the globe. The team finished tenth after losing to Finland 3-0 yesterday. The two teams played to a 2-2 draw in a group A match earlier in the tournament. Banyana drew first match against Finland 2- 2, then went on to lose heavily against Korea DPR 4-1. They then lost to Czech Republic in the third match to finish rock bottom in their group with one point from three matches. Ellis says they learnt a lot of lessons. Banyana have been paired in group B alongside Germany, Spain and China in the 2019 FIFA women world cup in France in June. The team also played high-profile matches against Sweden and Netherlands in Cape Town in January. Ellis says the Cyprus cup will help them to prepare for the global showpiece. Banyana have done well in recent years having qualified for the two Olympics at 2012 Olympics in London, England as well as 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil. They have also done well to qualify for the world cup for the first time in history. Ellis says the preparations for the global showpiece are well on track.
