If Notoane wants to be successful he must pick from the NFD - Jomo Sono

South African football legend Jomo Sono says that newly-appointed national under-23 coach David Notoane should be looking at the National First Division for players when he selects his first squad. The Jomo Cosmos owner and coach says because of the NFD’s rule that enforces teams to play 3 under-23 players in their starting elevens, a number of very good young players have been exposed to senior football. He says the NFD’s standards have improved a lot in recent years, and there is not a big difference between some NFD and some Absa Premiership teams. Sono says that first Notoane must ignore agents and intermediaries who try to push their players into the national set-up, and says he must look at players with NFD experience before casting his eye over those playing in the PSL reserve league. Sono says that Notoane will need players with experience if he wants to qualify for the under-23 Afcon and the Olympics, and the NFD has these now in abundance.
