My wife stopped me from quitting Chiefs - Moleko

Mamelodi Sundowns’s Wednesday night win over Cape Town City ended any hopes of teams like Kaizer Chiefs being back in the mix for the league title. Chiefs are currently 10 points behind Sundowns on the log with only nine games to go for them and the Brazilians having a game in hand. Amakhosi right-back Kgotso Moleko finally gave up today. Following a promising start under Middendorp, Chiefs have drawn two and lost one of their last three matches and these were important points that would have kept them amongst the title chasing teams. Currently placed sixth on the log with 29 points from 21 matches, Chiefs will face Highlands Park at Moses Mabhida stadium tomorrow evening (18:00). The 29year-old has won two league titles with Chiefs under Stuart Baxter and also two trophies and he’s honest when he says after four years no silverware at the clubs, the standard has dropped. Moleko was on his way out last month, Middendorp’s predecessor Giovanni Solinas hadn’t registered him for the CAF Confederation Cup and decided that his contract not be renewed. Moleko has been at Chiefs for the past seven years and his contract is expiring at the end of this season but the club does have an option. The former Bloemfontein Celtic defender got a lifeline when Middendorp arrived at Chiefs at the beginning of December last year and admits that it’s been tough and that he almost gave up. Moleko had only featured in two matches under Solinas and has already played nine matches under Middendorp in all competitions. The arrival of South African U20 international Reeve Frosler from Bidvest Wits last month was seen as a way of replacing Moleko, but SABC Sport understands that it could end up being Bafana Bafana international Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s contract that won’t be renewed. Moleko welcomes the good competition and says between himself, Frosler and Mphahlele, they’re all different right-backs.
