Terblanche predicts humdinger Currie Cup Final between WP and Sharks tomorrow.
The Sharks should take plenty of heart from the way the Blue Bulls pushed Western Province in their agonising Currie Cup semi-final defeat at Newlands last week, former star Stefan Terblanche says. The Durban side face the reigning champions in the deciding match of the 2018 competition in Cape Town on Saturday, where they will be the big underdogs. Province were overwhelming favourites in their showdown against the Bulls last weekend as well, but the Pretoria side took them to extra time and could have won it had they taken their chances. Either way, Terblanche is predicting a humdinger in the Mother City. Province were 35-32 winners over the weekend, while the other semi-final between the Sharks and Golden Lions was equally entertaining – the Durbanites edging the win by 33-24. The quality of rugby impressed Terblanche, who was a stalwart for the KwaZulu-Natal side in the late 1990s and early 2000s, where he won over 100 caps. He says it has given South Africans renewed hope about the domestic game. Province are on a seven-game winning streak going into the final after they won all their pool games to top the log. The Sharks won five out of their six opening round matches and will also be quietly confident about their prospects. Their sole loss this season was a 50-28 defeat to the same opponents at the venue of the final. Terblanche, who won 37 caps for the Springboks, says both sides should stick to what they have been doing, saying the Sharks will have to cut out all errors if they want to give themselves a chance of an upset. Province have been the Currie Cup kings of recent years and they are bidding for a fourth title in seven seasons this year. They also won the crown last year by beating the same opposition in the final, which was in Durban, by 33-21. The Sharks, meanwhile, are seeking their first Currie Cup title since 2013. Both also endured disappointing Super Rugby campaigns this year and Terblanche feels this was a chance to make up for that as well a
