Whiteley admits conference system helped them get to final but calls for change in Super Rugby format
Lions captain Warren Whiteley has admitted that the Super Rugby conference system aided their road to the final and has made a call for the format of the competition to be changed. The Lions finished with the fourth most number of points but because of the conference system they finished second on the combined log as they won the South African conference and had more points than the Waratahs who won the Australian conference. Whiteley says a change in format where all teams in the competition play against each other would bring about parity and one the players would relish. The Lions were beaten 37-18 by the Crusaders in yesterday’s Super Rugby final in Christchurch.
