UN has called on African states to legislate laws that will end harmful cultural practices

The United Nations has called on African states to legislate laws that will end harmful cultural practices against women and girls such as Female Genital Mutilation. The call was made at the start of the two-day Pan African Parliament Conference on Women at the Gallagher Estate north of Johannesburg. The conference is offering a platform to review women's issues in Africa and ensure ongoing monitoring and evaluation of gender focused programmes.
