The commission was expected to brief the two sides on the election timetable. This development coincided with the official opening of Kenya's new parliament by Kenyatta despite the absence of opposition members of parliament. The members argued that they would have attended parliament if a new president had been sworn in. Meanwhile, a member of parliament in Kenyatta's party and a senator in Odinga's political outfit, have appeared in a Nairobi court and denied charges of making hate speeches.
