5 Sep we look at extra lessons offered by teachers after school hours, Is it a business or do poor performers need tutoring?
On the Forum at 8 this morning, we discuss an issue raised by a concerned parent who is a listener of Amlive. Her concern is around extra lessons offered by teachers after school hours. She says the extra lessons are meant to re-teach sections of the syllabus which have been taught at school. According to the listener, the tutors are people who are employed in public or private schools. They often offer the extra lessons to the same children they are paid to teach during the day. While she acknowledges that after school tutorials may be warranted, however the costs and number of extra lessons are now becoming an extra burden for parents. She is asking the Department of Education to intervene and regulate the education profession.
