#11 Gita Goven - Building the City of the Future, Right Now
To build the city that we know we want to live in, and want our children to thrive in, we are going to have to work with the sectors that we know need to work better. The City of Cape Town already has a housing back-log of 450 000, set to grow to 720 000 by the year 2030. That's a whole new city. And at the current rate of city development, and settlement redesign, all we seem to be doing is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. These were just a few of the wake-up calls delivered by architect Gita Goven, who is determined to ensure that the African city of the future is freed from the segregated foundations of the past. Her work with an organisation called CommuniTgrow is doing just that. Find out more at www.wescapelife.co.za.
