The Transnet South African Football Association (SAFA) School of Excellence will be conducting the first leg of trials for the 2017 intake from this month (March). The trials are open to players born in 2003 and 2004, who will be in Grade 8 next year. Trials will also take place in the following provinces: Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and KZN.

Every year the school identifies and enrolls talented young football players from rural and underprivileged communities across the country. It prepares them for a fulfilling professional football career. A total of 120 high school going boys will be selected to attend the prestigious school where they will receive a holistic education that focuses on formal academic competency, life skills training and football development. The school currently employs ten educators and four accredited coaching staff. The search for talent will also travel to the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Kwa- Zulu Natal and the Free State.
