#PODCAST: Industry experts predict a "major digital divide" when #coding and #robotics are introduced at SA schools

By Newsbreak Producer Tashlan Naidoo - Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Wits University, Professor Ruksana Osman says there is going to be a major digital divide when coding and robotics is introduced into the curriculum at South African schools. Yesterday, President Cyril Ramaphosa was speaking at the first day of the virtual Basic Education Lekgotla, where he said government is on track to finally introduce the much awaited subjects into the curriculum - which will be gazetted soon. But, Prof. Osman says while the policy and implementation is a step in the right direction, a vast majority of schools still don't have running water and toilets. This begs the question, where will resources come from and how will it be distributed? She adds that the cost of DATA is also going be an issue if not addressed effectively at a national level...
