The Right Kind of Resilience

There is a lot of talk about resilience.

An important trait to cultivate indeed.

But we should take care to foster resilience for the right things.

It makes no sense to be resilient in things that are becoming redundant or to bounce back to what was previously mediocre.

Some things are meant to stay broken.

A Plan For Learning

Consider the amount of content that is thrown in your direction. Are you taking the time to digest it and take action, or are you simply glancing at it and then moving on?
I’m sure that you can agree that most of the time, you are simply thinking in glances. You think that learning has happened, but actually it hasn’t.

Taking in information and actually learning from it is a skill, a skill that is difficult and one that you need to make time for if you want to progress in your life, both personally and professionally.

Now, more than ever before, you need to accelerate your learning and your skills.

You can only be sure that learning has been effective when you can integrate it into your life. When there is a shift in your awareness, your thinking, your feeling and in your behaviour.

Erik and John share a practical guide on how to create a Plan for Learning. This plan will equip you with the “how to” of learning that results in tangible change in your mindset and understanding.

10 Ways to Become More Lucky

Today’s topic is all about a list, a list of how to become more lucky.
We are living in a world right now where a lot of momentum has ended for a lot of people.

Do you feel you need to kick start this engine again?

John shares his reflection on what makes new opportunities come into his own life, and what creates luck, connections, and magnetism for him.

Erik highlights how most of the time we think in glances, and how important it is to dive deeper into the things you feel resonates well with you.

To benefit from these insights from John and Erik, you need to think deeply about the items on this list, to write them down, and see where you can do better and what you’re already doing well.

5 for 45. John's birthday reflections.

What do Naval, Bruce Lee and Walt Disney have in common? They’re all featured in this special episode from The Expansive Duo.

John, who’s just celebrated his birthday, shares his reflections on the most profound lessons he’s learned so far on his life journey.

When he was younger, John’s vision of success was completely different to what it is now. Now at 45 his idea of success has fundamentally changed from owning things to experiencing things.

As we connect with others, learn from each other and share our own experiences, we can enjoy a richer more fulfilling life. Enjoy the quotes that have inspired John and the lessons he’s considered the most profound.

Systems. Not just goals.

In this episode the Expansive duo offers practical advice on how to become aware of your current state of transition and implement the systems needed to make the necessary changes to move forward.

All of us have been affected by the global challenges and many of us have seen our original plans and goals dissipate. You now have a decision to make. Do you indulge in your current state? Mourning the loss of your previous plans? Or do you acknowledge the loss, say goodbye, and make new plans for the future?

To successfully do this you must first understand which phase of transition you are in. Transition always starts with an ending, a painful process of letting go, followed by a phase of navigating the unknown wilderness. Here you start to plant new seeds. Finally, this then culminates in a new beginning, where you can start actively moving forward towards a vision for the future.

To further bolster your efforts, you must assess the systems you currently have in place. When you create a system it takes the uncertainty out of the picture. It gives you something to do, even if it’s not perfect.

Goals are important, but don’t just set goals. Create systems. Test them and then iterate.

A Guide to Creating Content Online

With the virtual world becoming an integral and important part of our lives, both personally and professionally, one of the questions being asked by many people at the moment is how to start increasing their online presence and gain more visibility.

Both Erik and John have been in the virtual space for quite some time and between them have uploaded hundreds of videos, written thousands of posts, and have gained exposure in this way.

Whether you’re thinking about sharing your thoughts and ideas through a blog, a podcast, Youtube videos, or social media posts, you might get into the technicalities of how to best carry this out.

This Expansive episode approaches the success of sharing content online from a different perspective.

There are 2 big challenges to pay attention to: quality and consistency. In short, consider your motivation for sharing content and then commit to a schedule for releasing that content.

In this episode the Expansive duo discuss the turbulence we are all going through and how to best navigate it. Not only organisations and countries, but everyone is experiencing a reboot. We have moved from a place of having clarity and confidence in our vision for the future to a place of complete absence of clarity.

Without clarity we are using up far more energy and putting in more mental, physical, and psychological effort to try to find our way forward. This is an interesting and frustrating journey - not knowing what the future will look like and how we will get there.

Erik and John offer suggestions for gaining clarity again and understanding who you want to be and what you would like to be doing. They have both launched week-long group coaching programmes to assist with this. The key is to be willing to go deeper into our understanding of ourselves. We must identify what it is that we would like our future to feel like rather than what it will look like. We need to return to the core principles that guide our lives and find a way to give them a new format or mechanism for delivery.

This is a time for becoming willing to experiment. Because we don’t have any certainty or guarantee of anything, we should focus on the concepts that we want to drive towards but be flexible with how to get there.
