Phat Joe & The Family Chats To Thulani Sibisi And Andrew Oberhelzer

#FamilyInterview| JHB Studio~ The spotlight is on men’s health
Are discussions around cancer a taboo among men?

One could ask why South Africa has such a high number of black men diagnosed with prostate cancer, and why so many white males are diagnosed with testicular cancer, with most getting diagnosed late. Is it because of fear, shame or have we not taken such issues seriously enough? In some communities talking about private parts is a taboo! But at what cost? All it takes is Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test for men over 40 to test for prostate cancer. And men as young as 15 can do regular self examinations to check for abnormalities in their testicles.
According to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), black men have the highest chance of contracting prostate cancer, with a frighteningly high-risk rate of up to one in four (25 percent), while white men have a lower, but still scary risk rate, of 10 percent.
There’s a 98% survival rate with early detection, but only a 30% chance once it has spread to other parts of the body. Yet South Africa has one of the world’s highest rates for prostate cancer spreading to other parts of the body because men don’t get screened.

#FamilyInterview| One of the most inspiring entertainment stories of 2019 is that of the Ndlovu Youth Choir and their incredible voices being recognised all over the world.

The choir shot to international stardom on the reality show America’s Got Talent, which is in its 14th season. They were beaten for top honours by American singer Kodi Lee, but they signed with Sony Music Entertainment, which shares a global joint venture with reality-TV show judge Simon Cowell’s company, Syco Entertainment.

They have released an 11-track album  ‘Africa ‘ in December last year
It includes an inspirational repertoire of South African and international tracks, such as Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse's hit Burnout, Higher Love by Steve Winwood, Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas and U2's Beautiful Day.
It also features choir’s first original song, Believe, written by Ralf Schmitt, the group's conductor and artistic director

Ndlovu's incredible 2019 was preceded by a significant moment in the latter half of the previous year on 15 October 2018 when everything changed.
That's when Grammy-winning South African musician WOUTER KELLERMAN uploaded a video of himself and the young, vibrant group performing a Zulu version of Ed Sheeran's hit song Shape of You and it went viral, and the producers of reality competition of America's Got Talent asked them to audition for the 2019 season of the show after watching it.
The Ndlovu Choir was established in Moutse Valley in rural Limpopo, over a decade ago in January 2009.
Formed by the Ndlovu Care Group's child care community programme to give children from disadvantaged backgrounds the same opportunities as their more advantaged counterparts
