Mkhuleko Hlengwa, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa)

Yesterday, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) received a briefing from the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), Hawks and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) on Covid-19 related cases of corruption. One of the things that came out of that briefing is that the CFO of the department of correctional services, Nick Ligege, is being investigated by the SIU for allegedly awarding PPE tenders worth more than R50m to 23 companies linked “to (his) friends and family members”.
