The Tax Ombud will be launching a nation-wide awareness campaign themed “We Speak Fairness” which seeks to promote fairness in the South African tax administration systems. The launch, on Saturday 30 June at Maponya Mall in Soweto, will also serve to remind taxpayers, tax practitioners and the general public of the assistance they can expect from the Tax Ombud, prior, during and post the SARS’S Tax Filing Season commencing on 1 July and ending 31 October. Since its establishment almost five years ago, the Office of the Tax Ombud (OTO) has been speaking and promoting fairness in the South African tax administration system, defending taxpayers’ rights and helping resolve tax complaints against the South African Revenue Service (SARS). As SARS launches its tax filing season and encouraging taxpayers to file their tax returns on time, the Tax Ombud Judge Bernard Ngoepe is reminding taxpayers, tax practitioners, and the general public, that the OTO is committed, capable and will continue to defend their rights as taxpayers and help resolve complaints they might have against the revenue collector.
