Once upon a time, I was a perfect parent. Then I had children. The end. The Village started life on Facebook as a safe place for parents of tweens and teens to ask questions, get advice, share ideas and generally let each other know that they are not alone. The Village Live podcast is about the same thing - getting expert insight, hearing each other's stories, looking at the issues - and, never forgetting that a sense of humour is very important.

4. More than a game?

We love seeing our kids succeed. But what happens when winning becomes the only thing that matters? Is it worth sacrificing a childhood? And can parents push too hard? Megan De Beyer talks to a former tennis player about her life as a teenage champion and how she feels looking back. If you don't want to be 'that' parent by the side of the sports field, take a listen.

3. Where we talk kids and internet porn - Emma Sadleir Part 2

"Basically, as soon as you have access to a handheld device, you have access to pornography." Social media lawyer, Emma Sadleir, tells it like it is. In the second part of our interview with her, she deals with porn, screen addiction (ours and theirs), cat-fishing and more and has some very relevant advice for all of us who are battling with the toxic combination of our kids and smartphones.

2. Selfies, sexts and smartphones - Emma Sadleir Part 1

Our kids, their phones and social media. What are they up to? Are they being scarred for life? How do we control it? It’s a whole new world of pain and panic our parents never had to deal with and a world we don’t always understand. Social media law expert, Emma Sadleir’s new book, "Selfies, sexts and smartphones", is aimed at teens, but is packed with insight and information to help you get a handle on what's going on. Here’s the first part of her conversation with Vanessa.

1. In the beginning ...

The Village was born in February 2017 to parents Vanessa Raphaely and Megan De Beyer - one an editor, the other a psychologist, both mothers of teenagers who were beginning to drive them crazy. Talking about things together seemed to help. They started The Village on Facebook to see if anyone else wanted to join in. They did. In this, the first edition of The Village Live Podcast, we find out more about how it all started.
