Berman slams ICASA proposed regulations & says this will bring poverty to boxers

South Africa’s longest serving boxing promoter Rodney Berman says the proposed Independent Communication Authority of South Africa’s (ICASA’s) proposed amendment of the sports broadcasting rights is going to collapse boxing and sport in the country. Berman’s company Golden Gloves Boxing promotions is one of the 32 entity’s that have made submissions to ICASA on these proposed regulations. Like most sports federations in the country, they are vehemently opposed to this draft and Berman was clear today that this has got the potential to finish off boxing as a professional sport in the country. Berman says boxing has also been an occupation of disadvantaged societies and if these proposed ICASA sports broadcasting regulations this will lead some boxers and their trainers to poverty. Golden Gloves has been promoting credible world champions for the past three decades from Brian Mitchell, Dingaan Thobela, Baby Jake Matlala, Welcome Ncita, Vuyani Bungu and many more. Berman says these proposed regulations could also lead to inactivity for professional boxers and hit them hard in the pocket.
