Never before has sharing been this caring | Dr. Pheello Lethola (lead consultant, donor services, South African National Blood Service)

--:--
In this challenging time of the Covid-19 (SARS-CoronaVirus-2) outbreak, with people being encouraged to self-isolate as much as possible, we must remember that essential services need to be kept running. Many services are under major pressure, one of which is the South African National Blood Service.

With people working from home, schools and universities closed, and fewer visitors to Shopping centres where they do blood drives, blood donations have dropped to a point where national blood banks have only enough for three days.

This means there won't be enough blood for those who really need it - for those involved in accidents, for those undergoing operations or those having transfusions.

Dr Pheello Lethola, Lead Consultant for Blood Donor services, is on hand to tell us why it's safe to continue giving blood, and the steps the SANBS are taking to ensure your safety, while ensuring we can save lives.
