Being Green - 6 April 2018

--:--
The ironies of living! Somehow we negotiate them, or try not to think of them.

Now here on the green front this is a first for me. I’ve often reported on activists demonstrating on behalf of Independent Power Producers, IPP’s. Stand up for the independents against the looming giant of the Quango, in this case Eskom.
Now we have activists demonstrating against the licensing of Independent Producers. But the irony is false as it turns out, because in this case the activists are not against the Independent category, but they’re anti the principle of the proposed generating method or type, which is COAL. Of course Independent Producers are to be encouraged, it’s part of the new economic model, moving away from public/government, or State Owned Entities, SOE’s that give rise to so many groans. But no, not this way say the activists. Because these Independents are not going the way of Renewables, like solar PVs or wind, but it’s the bête noir, coal. Whichever way you cut it, coal is hard to justify. But that is not stopping the government or the foreign investors.
