Mayor Patricia de Lille’s recent call for a 26-point-nine-per cent hike in water and sanitation tariffs came as a shock to Cape Town residents. The mayor presented the city’s budget speech last week with the water and sanitation department
proposing the introduction of a fixed charge for water based on the water meter size, as well as seven restriction level tariffs.
