City denies funding to Cape Town Minstrel Carnival association

Well it seems as though the issues between Cape Town Minstrel Carnival association and the City of Cape Town is now heading to the courts, after the City of Cape Town denied its application for funding. Issues have been surfacing for years, but reached fever pitch last year when the City awarded a permit to the CTMCA’s rivals, the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Assosiasie (KKKA) to host the Tweede Nuwe Jaar parade, at a tender worth R1.8 million. The CTMCA then pulled out its troupes. This time around, the CTMCA says it’s being stonewalled by the City for next year’s street parades. This all comes against the backdrop of last weeks announcement that the City has a new partnership with the KKKA to organise what will now be called the Cape Town Street Parade
