Compared to eight other cities, Cape Town has the highest rates of murder, robbery and property-related crimes in South Africa. That’s according to a new report produced by the Urban Safety Reference Group (USRG), working with the South Africa Cities Network (SALC) and the GIZ-Inclusive Violence and Crime Prevention (VCP) Programme.
The 2017 State of Urban Safety Report breaks down crime statistics in the country’s nine largest urban areas and puts them alongside social, structural and crime prevention strategies to add deeper insight.
The key question is, why Cape Town is the crime capital of South Africa?
