Fraudulent marriages and Marriages of convenience

Now as we know, the phenomenon of fraudulent marriages and Marriages of convenience in South Africa is a very serious issue. South African women are selling their hands in marriage to foreigners seeking residents’ permits. These men pay the women between R500 and R2 000 a month to be their ‘wife’ for them to get residents’ permits. There are syndicates with agents who have a pool of girls willing to go through the process and a priest who officiates the marriage.

Our country has laws to keep South Africans safe from dubious marriage proposals but it’s all about the question is on implementation….
