The public transport system and legacy of apartheid spatial planning

On Friday afternoon, the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) and two other unions have reached an agreement with employers, ending the bus strike. But this doesn’t solve the long term problem of public transport in our major cities and the fact that the poor, working class have no other choice, because of apartheid spatial planning. When bus or train services are interrupted, for the poorest, there is no plan B.
